My Story

Picture
Hi! My name is Stuart. I'm an adventure travel journalist based in Edinburgh, Scotland, who is constantly falling on his own face, luckily, often in front of a scenic backdrop. Having worked as an Associate Editor for Mpora.com, the largest action sports and adventure website in Europe for four years after graduating from the University of Stirling, where I was nominated for the NUS Student Journalist of the Year award, I'm now a full-time freelancer. Most of my work at the moment involves writing about mountain bikes, skiing, travel, hiking, football, or some kind of other outdoor pursuit, but I'm well versed in writing about an endless
variation of topics, from professional woodchopping to inflatable Lidl kayaks and everything in between. At the moment, I'm currently working with Metro, Vice Media, Amuse, Red Bull, Mpora, Escapism Magazine, PlayStation Magazine, Mundial Magazine and more. With extensive experience in feature writing, interviewing, up to date SEO and social media practise - during my four year stint at Mpora, I was part of the team that grew the Facebook page from 22,000 likes to 1.4 million - I have plenty of important skills which have been learned working first-hand in the industry, and most important of all, I just love to write.

As well as my work as an adventure journalist, I'm also a performance poet, playwright and creative writer. Sometimes I even combine being on stage with the adventure travel stuff, like at the Adventure Travel Show this year, where I led a chat with G-Adventures, which was fun. I co-wrote the play Lifeguards for the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe with Grant Robertson, and my first spoken word show, The Space Gecko Project debuted at Hidden Door Festival 2018, before enjoying a successful and acclaimed run at the Edinburgh fringe.
The Skinny described The Space Gecko Project as "the most wholesome event for Scottish poetry in 2018" and the Sunday Post called it "wonderfully weird". I've also done feature sets with Sonnet Youth, Inky Fingers, Loud Poets, Interrobang and more, and performed across Scotland, England and in Berlin and Paris. My surreal short stories have also been published in 404 Ink Literary Magazine, and I'm always open to new performing, speaking and writing opportunities in any walk of life.
